Letters to the Editor
In a country starved of international sporting successes, we may have spotted a potential Olympic gold medal winner in Budhia Singh. However, instead of making him perform feats beyond his age, the need of the hour is to hone his potential and make him the champion he is capable of becoming. A four-year-old will be ignorant of the hazards of overwork. The powers-that-be in Indian sport should ensure that Budhia's talent is brought to fruition.
Suresh Manoharan,
Several readers have written in these columns criticising the organisers of Budhia's Puri-Bhubaneswar run as well as his mentor Biranchi Das for "exploiting" him. Let it be understood that Budhia is one of those born to run. So, let us all help him do it better than most.
Swathi Chandrala,
The hue and cry against Budhia's coach is surprising. Where were these critics when the little one was on the streets literally begging for food? It is because of his mentor that Budhia's basic needs have been taken care of.
