Priority for irrigation, says Kumaraswamy

    BELLARY: Stress will be on development of the State in the tenure of the Janata Dal (Secular) (JD-S) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) coalition government with priority to develop north Karnataka region, Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy said here on Sunday.

    Mr. Kumaraswamy, who was participating in a series of meetings during his visit to the district, said that his Government was pro-farmer and pro-poor and would respond immediately to their needs. He said that steps would be taken to commission all the pending lift irrigation projects and other schemes, including drinking water projects, and there was no dearth of funds for the purpose.

    At the "Janata Darshan" programme at the Municipal school grounds here on Sunday, the Chief Minister, while commending Deputy Commissioner Arvind Srivastav for already holding meetings to redress the public grievances, wanted other officials to visit the villages to find out the problems faced by people and take steps to redress them.

    In Bellary, 165 petitions had been received from the public at various counters set up at the venue of which 21 had been categorised as could be solved on the spot, 66 at the district-level and 78 at the State level, Mr. Kumaraswamy said reiterating that he would hold such "Janata Darshans" at all the districts.

    The Chief Minister promised to arrange for release of Rs. 10 lakh for the development of Dodda Basaveshwara temple at Kurgodu.

    Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa explained the steps taken by his Government for the welfare of the poor and the needy, especially the women.

    Transport Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy spoke.

    Mr. Kumaraswamy, accompanied by his cabinet colleagues, inaugurated a 110/33/11 kV sub-station at Kurgodu, a bus stand in Bellary, a golden jubilee park, shopping complex and an Ambedkar Bhavan in the city.
