HYDERABAD: Buoyed by the success of the "Jalayagnam" programme, the Government is upbeat about mobilising Rs. 4,000 crore under the Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP) this year, according to Major Irrigation Minister P. Lakshmaiah.
Achievements listed
Listing the achievements of the irrigation sector on the eve of the Government completing two years in office, he told The Hindu that Andhra Pradesh had mopped up Rs. 1,037 crore in 2005-06, against the budgeted Rs. 550 crore. This was 12 times more than the funds spent by the TDP regime each year, which averaged Rs. 87 crore between 1994 and 2004. The total AIBP assistance received during that period was Rs. 870 crore.
