KANNUR: The Payyannur police on Sunday said that investigation was on to identify the man admitted in a hospital here following reports of his having striking resemblance with Sukumara Kurup who was wanted in connection with the murder of Chacko 22 years ago. The police said a team led by Dy.SP Abdul Kareem after holding an initial investigation reached a conclusion that the person who reportedly bore resemblance with the Sukumara Kurup was not the fugitive from law that the police had been looking for. The police said that a final conclusion on the identity of the person in the hospital would be arrived after further examination by top police officials. The police said that V.K. Sreejith of Thalassery who had informed the police of a mendicant who resembled Sukumara Kurup identified the person admitted in the Government Hospital at Payyannur as the one he had suspected as the accused in the Chacko murder case. According to the police, the person admitted at the hospital has been identified as Chenthamarakshan alias R.C. Nair, son of Raghavan Nair of Akkarapath Veedu at Pullat near Thiruvalla in Pathanamthitta district. An asthma patient, he has been admitted to hospital here on May 2, while he was on his way to Mookambika Temple in Kolloor. The police said that he had left his house 14 years ago and had been staying alone.
