THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Information Commission has warned public authorities against failure to designate assistant information officers and public information officers and appellate authorities under the provisions of the Right to Information Act. An official release said though several offices had taken action in this regard, there were still some Government departments and institutions that had not named the information officers and appellate authorities. The Commission directed that all should take immediate steps in this regard and report the names of officials thus appointed to the Commission before May 25. The names of the assistant public information officers and appeal authorities should be displayed at the entrance of Government offices and agencies. Failure to do so would be viewed seriously. The Commission has directed the Secretary of the Perumbavoor Municipality to inquire and report about the officials who had delayed supply of information to the public as per requests under the Act. The report has to be submitted within 15 days. In another case, the Commission directed the Principal Secretary (NORKA) to provide the requested information within 15 days, after hearing him on an appeal petition filed by the applicant.
