NEW DELHI: India beat Malaysia 2-0 and secured the 11th position in the Asia-Oceania Junior Davis Cup under-16 tennis tournament in Malaysia. Thailand beat Australia 2-0 in the final, and the top three countries in the 20-team competition qualified for the World Group event to be held later in the year. The results: India bt Malaysia 2-0 (Venkat Iyer bt Han Zhou Tan 6-2, 6-1; Vijayant Malik bt Mohammed Fazree Said 6-4, 6-3). The final placings: 1. Thailand, 2. Australia, 3. Japan, 4. Korea, 5. Chinese Taipei, 6. New Zealand, 7. China, 8. Uzbekistan, 9. Indonesia, 10. Philippines, 11. India, 12. Malaysia, 13. United Arab Emirates, 14. Hong Kong, 15. Pakistan, 16. Vietnam, 7. Bangladesh, 18. Singapore, 19. Myanmar and 20. Sri Lanka.
