ANANTAPUR: An attempt by a gang of five unidentified persons to steal Rs. 2.5-lakh cash drawn from a bank by a person here, was foiled on Monday.

According to police, Narapa Reddy of Garladinne, former chairman of Anantapur Agriculture Market Committee, had withdrawn Rs. 2.5 lakhs cash from the ING Vysya Bank branch at Ramachandra Nagar here in the morning. When he was about to board his car, the miscreants diverted his attention by throwing a couple of currency notes on the ground.

Then an unidentified person snatched the suitcase containing the cash and took to his heels. However, he was caught by the driver of a jeep passing by.
