AICC secretary happy with Pondy turnout

Says people have displayed their positive response

Pondicherry: The All India Congress Committee Secretary P Sudhakar Reddy (who is in charge of Congress party affairs in Pondicherry) on Monday expressed his appreciation over the heavy and peaceful polling in the second phase in Pondicherry and Karaikal regions. He told The Hindu that the people in the Union Territory had displayed their positive response and cooperation to ensure peaceful polling. He also placed on record the good work done by the police, the election authorities and the entire government machinery for the smooth conduct of the polls.

(Congress which is part of Democratic Progressive Alliance has fielded candidates in 16 segments while its ally the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in 11, the Pattali Makkal Katchi in two and the Communist party of India in one segment. The other combination headed by the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has fielded the candidates as under: AIADMK in 16, its ally the Puduchery Munnetra Congress in 9, the Janata Dal (secular) in one and the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and Dalit Panthers of India in two constituencies each in the present poll.
