88,765 candidates to appear for CET beginning today

Staff Reporter

26,074 candidates will appear for the test in 49 centres in Bangalore

BANGALORE: Even as the contentious fee structure issue remains unresolved between the State Government and the private college managements, the admission process for undergraduate professional courses formally takes off on Tuesday, with the Common Entrance Test (CET).

Over the next two days, 88,765 candidates will appear for the test in 186 examination centres spread across the State. A total of 26,074 candidates will appear for the test in 49 centres, located within Bangalore.

On Tuesday, the candidates will first tackle the Biology test from 10.30 a.m. to 11.50 a.m. The Mathematics test is scheduled between 2.30 p.m. and 3.50 p.m. Wednesday will feature the tests on Physics (10.30 a.m. to 11.50 a.m.) and Chemistry (2.30 p.m. to 3.50 p.m.).

Candidates had applied in large numbers for the test conducted every year by the Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell, although the test's significance has reduced considerably after the Karnataka Professional Education Bill. The CET will decide the candidates for only 382 MBBS seats and 4,300 B.E. seats available in the private aided and government colleges.

The CET Cell has asked all the candidates to be present at the examination centre assigned to them at least 30 minutes before the commencement of each session of the test, on both the days; to invariably carry the admission ticket with them, failing which they would not be allowed to enter the examination hall.

The candidates should carry only a blue or black ink ballpoint to mark answers on the OMR answer sheet. The Version Code of the question booklet should be entered by shading the respective circle on the bottom portion of the OMR answer sheet, and the serial number entered on the top portion of the OMR sheet.

Signatures should be affixed on both the top and bottom portions of the sheet.

The candidates have also been asked not to carry slide rules, mathematical tables, markers, white fluid, erasers and modern electronic equipment such as mobile phones, laptops, calculators/watch calculators, pagers and wireless sets to the examination halls.
