Magic festival

A total of 172 magicians are to be honoured at `Vismayam 2006,' which will have as its main attraction a 10-hour non-stop magic show.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Magic Academy, which has introduced various scientific and path-breaking modes of training and researching in the art of magic, is completing a decade. Various programmes have been planned as part of its 10th anniversary celebrations on Saturday.

According to a press release issued by the academy, 172 magicians from different parts of the country will be honoured at a function to be held at Tagore Theatre.

Uthradam Tirunal Marthanda Varma, head of the erstwhile royal family of Travancore, will inaugurate the programme at 9.45 a.m.

The academy is organising the celebrations in association with the Information and Public Relations Department, State Bank of India, Life Insurance Corporation and the District Tourism Promotion Council.

The celebrations titled `Vismayam 2006' will have as its main attraction, a 10-hour non-stop magic show.Magic shows will be held continuously after the inaugural session.

Competitions for 12 junior and senior magicians, discussion forum to identify the problems faced by magicians and lecture sessions led by noted magicians like A.K. Dutt, Acy M. Kottalil and Rajamoorthy have also been planned. Trophies will be presented to the winners of the contests.

Public will be allowed to enter the venue from 4.45 p.m. onwards to watch the magic shows.

District Collector N. Ayyappan will inaugurate the valedictory session Mayor C. Jayan Babu will preside. Magic shows organised by the academy, at the national and State-level, have evoked a positive response from the connoisseurs of the art.

The academy has to its credit a database of native magicians and has also launched a free accident insurance scheme for magicians.
