71.8 per cent polling recorded in Dharmapuri

In Krishnagiri district, it is 71.27 per cent; EVMs brought to counting centres

Dharmapuri: Dharmapuri district has recorded an average of 71.8 per cent turnout in the elections for the State Assembly held on Monday. Out of a total of 10,16,277 voters in the district, 7,27,687 (3,75,941 men and 3,51,746 women) had cast their votes.

According to official sources, Palacode Assembly segment had recorded the highest of 76.8 per cent (77,756 men and 72,993 women) followed by Morapur - 73 per cent (65,339 men and 60,924 women) and Pennagaram - 71.8 percent (77,384 men and 72,087 women).

Rural areas

Harur had recorded 69.3 per cent (80,229 men and 74,651 women) and Dharmapuri, the lowest - 68 per cent (75,233 men and 71,091 women). According to the final figures, men outnumbered women in all the Assembly segments in the district. Brisk polling was recorded in all the rural areas.

Krishnagiri district has recorded an average of 71.27 per cent.

Out of a total of 10,67, 905 voters in the district, 7,61,087 (3,95,749 men and 3,65,338 women) had cast their votes.

Kaveripattinam Assembly segment had recorded the highest of 76.99 per cent (71,576 men and 68,996 women) followed by Bargur - 72.52 per cent (71,402 men and 71, 632 women) and Krishnagiri - 71.32 per cent (70,350 men and 68,803 women).

Hosur had recorded 68.76 per cent (1,16,130 men and 98,601 women) followed by Thally, the lowest at 68.41 per cent (66,291 men, 57,306 women). Men outnumbered women voters in all the segments except Bargur.

Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) from all the polling stations in Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts were brought amid tight security to the respective counting centres in the districts.

The EVMs were deposited in the counting centres and sealed in the presence of the District Election Officer and the Election Observers of the concerned Assembly constituencies. Counting centres for the Assembly segments in Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri have been established at the Government Arts College and the Government Polytechnic respectively.
