Pavithran remembrance meet

Thrissur: A Pavithran remembrance meeting will be organised by Janasamskara at the Kerala Sahitya Akademi hall here on Wednesday on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of his film, `Uppu'. `Uppu' will be screened at Sree theatre here on May 13, according to a press release. — Staff Reporter

Rate fixed

KOTTAYAM: Idukki district authorities have fixed the rates for jeep travel to the forest temple of Mangaladevi during the festival scheduled for May 13. The charge per person on a jeep will be Rs. 40 from Kumily bus stand to the temple. The rental for a jeep has been put at Rs.400, Transport authorities said. — Staff Reporter

Bishop-designate

KOTTAYAM: Monsignor Sebastian Thekkathecherry has been appointed bishop-designate of Vijayapuram diocese of the Latin Catholic Church. The fifth bishop of the diocese, Mgr. Thekkathecherry will take over administrative responsibilities from Bishop Peter Thuruthikonam, who had been serving the diocese for the past 18 years, when he steps down on retirement. The 52- year-old Mgr. Thekkathecherry has functioned as the vicar general and diocesan chancellor of Vijayapuram dicocese. The dates for his consecration will be announced later. — Staff Reporter

Kozhikode: Stationery for school and college students including note books, pens, pencils and instrument boxes are available at highly subsidised rates at the outlet of the Kozhikode District Ration Dealers' Cooperative Society functioning in the KMO building at the Civil Station here. Move to hike fuel

prices flayed

Kozhikode: The Calicut Chamber of Commerce and Industry has flayed the reported move by the Centre to hike the prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gas. A meeting of the Chamber held here recently appealed to the Government to desist from the move. The meeting pointed out that the general public was yet to recover from the hike in prices of essential commodities due to the raise in prices of petroleum products earlier. Another price hike would put more burden on the people of the State, the CCCI office bearers said. CCCI President, C.E. Chakunni presided. — Staff Reporter
