MOSCOW: Thousands of Communist supporters took to the streets in Moscow on Tuesday to mark the 61st anniversary of victory in World War Two and protest against the social policies of the Government. Over 10,000 Communists-led demonstrators waving red flags and raising anti-government slogans marched through the central part of Moscow in an impressive display of opposition strength. Some demonstrators carried portraits of Joseph Stalin and Vladimir Lenin, and placards saying "We'll rebuild the Soviet Union", "We'll defend our Victory," and "Down with Putin." The Opposition manifestation took place shortly after a traditional military parade in Red Square attended by President Vladimir Putin and members of the Russian Government. Speaking on the occasion Mr. Putin warned against a resurging threat of fascism today. However, Communist leader Gennaday Zyuganov said authorities were sticking the label of "fascists" on all left-wing Opposition.
