Arrangements made for counting in Alappuzha

Eleven counting centres to function in district

ALAPPUZHA: All arrangements have been made in the district for the counting of votes, which will be held on May 11, an official release has said.

The counting will begin at the 11 counting centres here at 8 a.m. The counting centres in the district for the 11 constituencies are as follows:

Aroor Government Boys High School will be the counting centre for Aroor, Cherthala Town Lower Primary School for Cherthala, Leo XIII High School, Alappuzha, for Mararikulam, Alappuzha Government Girls' High School for Alappuzha, Alappuzha SDV Girls' Higher Secondary School for Ambalappuzha, NSS Higher Secondary School, Ramankary, for Kuttanad.

Haripad Government Boys Higher Secondary School for Haripad, Kayamkulam M.S.M. College for Kayamkulam, Chengannur Girls' Vocational Higher Secondary School for Chengannur, Mavelikkara Bishop Hodges High School for Mavelikara and Mavelikara Bishop Moore College for Pandalam.

A total of 1,522 voting machines were used in the elections at the various constituencies in the district. While Aroor has 142 machines for counting, Cherthala has 123, Mararikulam 173, Alappuzha 105, Ambalappuzha 126, Kuttanad 124, Haripad 164, Kayamkulam 139, Chengannur 116, Mavelikara 147 and Pandalam 163.

The election commission has informed that the postal votes that would be delivered to the authorities till 8 a.m. on May 11 would be considered for counting. The counting of postal votes and machines would start simultaneously. The progress in counting and lead positions would be displayed at the Collectorate.
