Over 74 per cent polling in Tiruvannamalai

Cheyyar recorded the highest of 79.40 per cent

TIRUVANNAMALAI: An average of 74.07 percentage of the electorate had exercised their franchise in the nine constituencies in Tiruvannamalai district in the 2006 Assembly general elections held on Monday.

Lowest

The highest polling percentage of 79.40 was recorded in Cheyyar, while the lowest percentage of 69.38 was registered in Tiruvannamalai.

Following is the break-up of the votes polled and the percentage in various constituencies in the district.

Chengam (SC): total electorate — 1,74,907, votes polled--1,24,459, percentage — -71.16; Thandarambattu: electorate — 1,87,199, votes polled — 1,43,617, percentage — 76.72; Tiruvannamalai: electorate — 2,14,933, votes polled — 1,49,114, percentage — 69.38;

Kalasapakkam: electorate — 1,81,522, votes polled — 1,41,121, percentage — 77.74; Polur: electorate — 1,70,499, votes polled — 1,24,063, percentage — 72.78.

Arni: electorate — 1,83,014, votes polled — 1,41,322, percentage — 77.22; Cheyyar: electorate — 1,69,405, votes polled — 1,34,503, percentage — 79.40; Vandavasi (SC): electorate — 1,74,330, votes polled — 1,23,868, percentage — 71.05.

Peranamallur: electorate — 1,70,775, votes polled — 1,22,683, percentage — 71.84.

The percentage of polling was higher among the male voters, who registered 76.04 per cent as against 72.16 per cent by women in all the nine Assembly constituencies.

152 booths

Besides, 152 polling stations in the district had registered more than 85 per cent polling, with Cheyyar constituency accounting for the maximum of 39 such stations.

Out of a total electorate of 16,26,584 in the district, 12,04,750 voters exercised their franchise.

Of those who voted, 9,93,050 voters produced their electors' photo identity cards (EPICs).
