First poll results in Kerala to be out before noon

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The first results of the general elections in Kerala will be out before noon on Thursday. Lead positions will be known much earlier.

Chief Electoral Officer Nalini Netto told presspersons here on Tuesday that counting would start at 8 a.m. on Thursday at 140 counting centres — one for each constituency. The counting centres have been arranged at 124 places.

She said that though the counting of postal ballots would start first, enumeration of votes recorded through the electronic voting machines would commence immediately thereafter. There would be 14 counting tables at each centre.

Besides the returning officer, an observer of the Election Commission would be present at each centre.
