Candidate's name missing from electronic files of EC

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The actual number of candidates who contested the Assembly elections in Kerala was 931 and not 930 as announced by the Election Commission.

Officials have now confirmed that the name of K. C. Prasad, who was a candidate in the Njrackal constituency of Ernakulam district, had been left out from the electronic files of the Commission.

His name did not figure even in the data distributed at the press conference of Chief Electoral Officer Nalini Netto here on Tuesday.

However, Mr. Prasad's name did appear in the statutory notification in the gazette dated April 12 under the Conduct of Election Rules. Hence, the omission would not have any legal implication.
