ANANTAPUR: Gales coupled with rain in different parts of the district in the wee hours of Tuesday brought the most needed respite to people suffering from the heat wave. However, it also caused damage to horticulture crops. Nine persons were also injured in related incidents. According to the information reaching here, heavy winds coupled with rain badly damaged papaya, banana, mango, sunflower and paddy crops in several parts of the district after last midnight. About 2,000 banana plants and 400 papaya plants were either uprooted completely or partially at Nagulaguddam village of Mudigubba mandal. Besides, sunflower and paddy crops were also damaged in about 200 acres of Nagulaguddam and surrounding villages. Commercial signboards posted on the rooftops and on the sides of roads flew like kites in the air at Hindupur due to the impact of heavy wind.
