Congress to celebrate two years of YSR's rule with `Vijayotsava' meet

  • Fulfilment of electoral promises to be reviewed
  • Political resolution to be adopted to fulfil remaining promises in next three years
  • 10 of 29 subjects to be transferred to panchayat raj institutions

    KADAPA: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee will hold a `Punarankitha Vijayotsava' sadassu at Lal Bahadur stadium in Hyderabad on May 14 to celebrate Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy completing two years in office.

    Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh and Union Minister for Panchayat Raj Mani Shanker Aiyer will participate in the sadassu, PCC official spokesman N. Thulasi Reddy and PCC member in-charge of Kadapa district J. Mallika told newspersons on Tuesday.

    They called upon all the elected representatives and leaders holding nominated posts, AICC, PCC and DCC members to take part.

    Review time

    A political resolution would be adopted after reviewing the extent to which the State Government fulfilled its electoral promises in the last two years and ways to fulfil remaining promises in the next three years, they said. A Panchayat Raj resolution would be passed as powers, funds and duties of 10 of 29 stipulated subjects would be transferred to PR institutions after the panchayat elections in July and August.

    To ensure gram swaraj envisaged by Mahatma Gandhi, efficient, honest and sincere candidates with service motto would be chosen as candidates for panchayat polls, they said.

    Moral values

    A third resolution aimed at imbuing among youth moral values and spirit of sacrifice and patriotism of eminent leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi would also be adopted, they said.
