Soumya and Prince assured of titles

NEW DELHI: Soumya Sharma checkmated Prince Bajaj in the sixth and penultimate round to maintain his all-win record and make sure of the boys' under-9 title in the Delhi State age-group chess championship at the Bapu Samaj Sewa Kendra here.

Similarly, Prince made sure of the boys' under-11 title with a round in hand after escaping to victory against Aman Jakhar in the sixth round.

In the women's championship, Dhara Gupta, Mini Rai and R. Mathura Priya shared the lead with two points each after two rounds.

The results:

Boys: Under-9 (sixth round): Soumya Sharma (6) bt Prince Bajaj (5); Aditya Vikram Ahuja (5) bt Deven Raj Anand (4); Anmol Lal (4) lost to Vaibhav Suri (5); Shourya Khanna (4) lost to Sarthak Gupta (5); Arman Chawla (4.5) bt Sarthak Arora (3.5); Vedant Kedia (3.5) lost to Inderdeep Singh (4.5).

Anish Jain (3) lost to Tarun Malhotra (4.5); Pavit Singh (3) lost to Simarpal Singh (4); Yashank Ahuja (3.5) drew with Sambhav Jain (3.5); Agamjot Singh (4) bt Taha Saad (3).

Under-11 (sixth round): Prince Bajaj (6) bt Aman Jakhar (5); Iqbal singh (4) lost to Rishi Thariani (5); Ram Gupta (5) bt Abhinav Gola (4); Pranav Singhania (4) lost to Abir Sinha (5); Yogesh Gautam (4.5) drew with Meharjot (4.5); Aditya Vikram (3.5) lost to Vaibhav Khanna (5).

Women (second round): Purnima Jakhar (1) lost to Dhara Gupta (2); Mini Rai (2) bt Ashi Gupta (1); Gayatri (1.5) drew with Kanika Saxena (1.5); Himani Sharma (0.5) lost to R. Mathura Priya (2); Bhavya Khattar (1) bt Amrit Kaut (0.5).
