New Delhi: The State Trading Corporation of India has floated a tender for import of 30 lakh tonnes of wheat as per the Government's decision to increase its buffer stocks. The STC has invited offers from internationally reputed suppliers for import of wheat in parcel size of 30,000-50,000 tonnes during July-October, the corporation website said. The STC tender stipulates the supply of 15 lakh tonnes of wheat for the eastern coast, while the remaining 15 lakh tonnes would be for the western coast. The tender, which was floated on Monday, closes on May 18. The STC would purchase five lakh tonnes in July and eight lakh tonnes in August and September. The remaining nine lakh tonnes will be imported in October. The Government had last month decided to import 30 lakh tonnes of wheat to ensure adequate buffer stocks in the central pool, in addition to five lakh tonnes imported in February due to shortages in the southern States. The consignments of the five lakh tonnes of wheat imported in February have started to land at the southern ports. PTI
