Brothers sacrificed by kin in Bihar

Special Correspondent

PATNA: Two brothers were sacrificed by their nephew and the wife of one of the victims in their bid to acquire greater supernatural powers in Satghara village under Amarpur police station of Banka district last Sunday night.

Surmi Devi beheaded her husband Dilip Das and her brother-in-law Police Das in conspiracy with Vikas Das, nephew of the slain brothers, who had come from Amba village of Bhagalpur district with two friends to carry out the heinous belief.

It was claimed that Vikas Das had prodded Surmi Devi into the act so that both of them gained greater proficiency in practicing black magic. Both of them were accused of relying on occultism.

Apparently, the two some seemingly prevailed upon the two brothers into submitting themselves to the fatal ritual with the assurance that they would be revived to life from death.

After a feast, Surmi Devi and Vikas Das along with the latter's two friends, Prabhu Das and Kishan Das, took Dilip Das and his brother to a field late on Sunday night and beheaded them. They were buried in a pit quietly. The police arrived the following morning following a hue and cry and exhumed the two bodies.

Police have arrested Surmi Devi, Prabhu Das and Kishan Das but Vikas Das, alleged main culprit, was still absconding.
