`Hamza had recruited Lashkar's operatives'

BANGALORE: Lashkar-e-Taiba operative Abu Hamza, who was shot dead by the police in an encounter in New Delhi on Monday night, was the one who had recruited to the terrorists organisation most of the Lashkar activists who were arrested by the Bangalore police after the attack on the Indian Institute of Science (IISc.) and shootout there.

A native of A.P.

Sources in the police told The Hindu on Tuesday that Hamza was a native of Andhra Pradesh.

He was the mentor of Abdul Rehman of Nalgonda, the South India commander of the LeT, who was the first to be arrested by the Bangalore police after the IISc. attack.

While investigating the IISc. shootout case, the police had obtained the details of Hamza's activities.

Attacks

He was suspected to have planned attacks on vital installations in Karnataka through Rehman and other arrested LeT operatives, the police sources said.
