A long gap... for candidates and voters

The long gap between polling and counting in the Assembly elections seems to have made people get busy with their routine, not giving much thought to the excitement in store during counting of votes on Thursday. However, the district administration is busy with preparations for the counting.

With just two days left for counting, the candidates are cool, so to say. After polling, the Congress candidate in the Ernakulam Assembly Constituency, K.V. Thomas, had paid a visit to Delhi. Now, he is in Velankanni to offer prayers, and will be back by Wednesday evening.

"We are here because it is my birthday tomorrow," Prof. Thomas said. "There has been no tension because of the gap in declaring the results."

K. Babu, Congress candidate in Thripunithura, has been staying put in his constituency. "I am confident of getting a comfortable margin," he said. Most party workers and supporters have gone back to their work. K.N. Ravindranath, Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate in Thripunithura, says that he has been in politics whether it is elections or not. Hence a gap in polling and counting does not affect him. "Politics is not restricted to the time of elections," he said.
