It seems to be a busy time for those who are bent upon filling the paddy fields. Whatever be the word of law, people who want to fill up paddy fields and build multi-storey structures are faced with no obstacles these days. The rules prohibiting the filling of paddy fields are many. But, none of the rules seem to effective in the face of the rampant filling of paddy fields in different parts of the district. Many parts of the remaining stretches of paddy fields are being filled up at a rapid rate during these days, especially in Tripunithura and Maradu areas. Even the protests put up by political parties and environmental organisations have been lost in the election din. Even though the fate of the Smart City project is undecided, people living in the vicinity of the Infopark in Kakkanad are already getting ready to welcome the project by filling up the paddy fields, all set for sale.
