HYDERABAD: The action of NTR University of Health Sciences in awarding five grace marks for candidates who appeared for the PG medical entrance examination has been struck down by a Division Bench of the High Court declaring it to be unconstitutional. The Bench found fault with the university for not providing reservations for physically challenged persons. The Bench comprising Justice G. Raghu Ram and Justice M. Venkateswara Reddy was allowing the writ petition filed by several students who had appeared for the PG entrance examination. The petitioners informed the court that the quota for in-service doctors who are seeking admissions into PG Medical Courses has been increased. They complained that in order to see that more in-service doctors get the minimum qualifying marks to be considered for admission these five grace marks were added. The Bench called for records and found that the explanations given by the university and Government were not satisfactory. The Bench directed the university to re-draw the merit list after deducting the five marks.
