Delhi Govt. accused of siding with traders

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Charging the Delhi Government as well as the local Congress MPs with presenting a distorted picture before the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the issue of sealing and demolitions in the Capital, the United Residents' Joint Association has written to Mr. Singh seeking an appointment to set the record straight so that the interests of honest citizens were not compromised.

Stating that they were a body of over 500 residents' welfare associations, the URJA in its letter to the Prime Minister stated: "We are alarmed at the alacrity with which members of various political parties and dispensations have stated your intentions to take action that would not only defeat the intent and spirit of the Supreme Court's orders in the case of sealing and demolitions in Delhi but that also rebel against all that an honest, upright citizenry would expect from your office.''

Celebrations

Further, the letter states that the citizens were particularly appalled that the celebrations for an attempt to thwart a sensible, although harsh, order have already started among political workers who stand to reap a bumper electoral harvest. "Are we to expect that the Union Government only represents a section of the population of this city, based on their ability to disrupt the normal working of the city?'' it asked.

The URJA stated that they were deeply concerned that the entire episode was being skewed in favour of a lobby
