BHUBANESWAR: Even as Budhia Singh's coach approached the Orissa High Court with a contempt petition against Women and Child Development Minister Pramila Mallick on Wednesday, the State Government filed an affidavit seeking the court's view whether the four-year-old should be allowed to run long distances at this stage. Coach Biranchi Das submitted that the Minister and four officials violated the court's order, which stayed coercive action against him. On May 5 the authorities took him and Budhia to hospital to have the boy examined by a four-member medical board. The coach earlier moved the court to quash the summons issued by the Khurda District Child Welfare Committee, which initiated proceedings against him for making the child run a long distance.
`Restrain coach'
In its affidavit, filed in response to the court notice on Mr. Das' petition, the Government prayed for restraining the coach from making the boy run long distances until the case was disposed of. The authorities enclosed the medical board's report, which said the boy should not run long distances at this age. "The Government will act as per the court orders, Ms. Mallick told presspersons. Meanwhile, Budhia has made it to the television screen. Local channels are now showing a music video with the song `Budhiare Budhia' that features the wonder boy in various moods.
