MEETING: DPA leaders handing over a petition to Governor Surjit Singh Barnala at Raj Bhavan in Chennai on Tuesday.
CHENNAI: A delegation of Democratic Progressive Alliance leaders, led by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam treasurer Arcot N. Veerasamy, called on Governor S.S. Barnala late on Tuesday evening and told him that the complaint against Pattali Makkal Katchi founder S. Ramadoss and his family members had been filed "out of political vindictiveness." Mr. Veerasamy presented a memorandum to the Governor and requested him to "issue appropriate directions to the authorities concerned, not to act upon the false complaint and to drop all further proceedings." Talking to reporters, Mr. Veerasamy said the filing of the case was the last act of desperation on the part of the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), which feared a rout in the elections. "It is evident that the Education Minister has given this false complaint only under instructions... The Minister coerced the police officer to register the case though the facts are contrary to the contents of the complaint," the memorandum said. Members of the delegation included Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president S. Krishnasswamy and PMK president G.K. Mani. Union Ministers Dayanidhi Maran, A. Raja, G.K. Vasan, E.V.K.S. Elangovan and R. Velu were also present.
