59th rank for son of a farmer at UPSC exams

PONDICHERRY: The son of a farmer from Katterikuppam in Pondicherry, P. Ulaganathan, an officer with the Indian Information Service has scored the 59th rank in the Civil Services examinations held by the Union Public Service Commission, the results of which were released on Monday. According to a press release here Mr. Ulaganathan, an Assistant Director (news) in Doordarshan, New Delhi, has scored the 5th rank in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry and the 2nd in Pondicherry.

Having done his Ph D in agriculture and specialised in agricultural entomology, he has passed the examinations in his fourth attempt. The first ranker from Pondicherry is Kavitha Padmanabhan, who has scored the 20th rank at the all-India level.
