JAKARTA: Indonesian President Susilo BambangYudhoyono is set to convene a special meeting to discuss the possibility of giving amnesty to the former President, Suharto, an official said on Wednesday. Mr. Suharto was named suspect in a major corruption case after his ouster in 1998 which ended his 32-year tenure. The retired army general, who turns 85 this June, has undergone a colon surgery earlier this week after suffering intestinal bleeding. ``We will discuss it [amnesty] this evening. The President cannot grant amnesty without consulting first with the House of Representatives and the Supreme Court,'' State Secretary Yusril Ihza Mahendra told reporters. Xinhua
