Review sentence: Naik
Legal Correspondent
New Delhi:
Maharashtra Transport Minister Swarup Singh Naik on Thursday sought a review and suspension of the sentence of one-month simple imprisonment imposed by the Supreme Court for disobeying its orders.
Mr. Naik, along with Additional Chief Secretary Ashok Khot, was found guilty of contempt of court.
Senior advocate Ranjit Kumar, appearing for Mr. Naik, made a mention before a Bench headed by the Chief Justice and sought permission to file the review petition. When counsel said the review plea would become infructuous once Mr. Naik was arrested, the Bench said it would consider the petition in the chambers before the summer vacation.
