HASSAN: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy will inaugurate on May 15 a cattle-feed plant whose capacity has been increased from 100 tonnes a day to 200 tonnes at a cost of Rs. 4.65 crore. He will also lay the foundation stone for the construction of an additional plant with 200 tonnes capacity adjacent to the existing plant at a cost of Rs. 18 crore, former Public Works and Energy Minister and Karnataka Milk Federation Chairman H.D. Revanna has said.

Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, he said Mr. Kumaraswamy would also lay the foundations stone for an outer ring road and a training institute of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation and inaugurate work on the second phase of the Government Medical College, besides opening the Government Nursing College building in Hassan and Holenarsipur.

He said the cattle feed plant, which started operations in 1998, had achieved a record production of 165 tonnes as against its capacity of 100 tonnes and was supplying 3,500 tonnes of feed to the Hassan, Dakshina Kannada, and Mysore milk unions.

In view of the increase in demand for cattle feed, it had been decided to open another plant with the help of the National Dairy Development Board. As much as 23 acres of land had been acquired for the purpose, he added.

Total production

The total production by the four cattle feed units in the State was 18,000 tonnes, he said and added that the KMF was still finding it difficult to meet the demand for cattle feed. He profit registered by the four units during the previous year was Rs. 8 crore, and the same had been distributed as subsidy among milk producers, he said.
