Seek removal of Uttaranchal Governor for allegedly violating constitutional norms

DEHRA DUN: The left parties and the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal have jointly petitioned the President, A P J Abdul Kalam, seeking the immediate removal of the Uttaranchal Governor, Sudarshan Aggarwal as he had "violated" constitutional norms by running a NGO- Him Jyoti Foundation as its president from the Raj Bhawan and allegedly misused his offices to seek huge donations from parties who were "blessed" by the State Government by way of permissions, concessions or huge tracts of lands in the name of charitable or developmental activities.

Addressing a joint press conference in the Uttaranchal Press Club here on Thursday, Vijay Rawat, State Secretary of the Communist Party of India ( Marxist), Raja Bahuguna, State incharge of the Communist Party of India ( Marxist- Leninist), Samar Bhandari, State Secretary of the Communist Party of India and Omi Uniyal representative of the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal said that the high level corruption in the State had gone unchecked so far due to the involvement of high level functionaries in activities that had lowered the stature of the posts they held.

They wanted to know how senior IAS officers including the Secretary to the Governor, N Ravi Shanker, who is also incharge of several departments, were made office bearers of this NGO. The leaders wanted to know how the ONGC, SBI, BHEL, GAIL, HPCL, Indian Airlines, Uttaranchal Tourism Development Board, State Industrial Development Corporation of Uttaranchal Ltd, Mussoorie Dehra Dun Development Authority, Wild Life Institute of India and BSNL could donate away huge public funds to this NGO liberally while most of them were citing heavy losses when it came to giving better public services or pay to their employees.

They sought a high level CBI probe into the mass scale allotment of vast stretches of land to organizations of several top politicians, bureaucrats and businessmen from the plains at meagre rents of Rs one since Uttaranchal was formed.
