Experts on Cauvery dispute criticised

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Gyan Chandani and Sahasrabudhe, experts appointed by the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal to look into the technical aspects of the issue, have allegedly committed an act of impropriety by circulating their findings among the four States involved, Minister for Water Resources K. Eshwarappa said here on Thursday.

He told presspersons that on April 21, the tribunal surprised those concerned by appointing a three-member committee of experts to look into technical aspects, such as crop pattern and water requirements of the riparian States, at a time when a final award was expected.

The experts' committee decided to circulate its report instead of submitting it to the tribunal. The findings might cause another dispute among the States, Mr. Eshwarappa said.
