Treble for Karhadkar

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: North Zone and West Zone scored their second consecutive wins in the J.K. Bose trophy inter-zone cricket tournament for sports journalists here on Thursday.

North Zone defeated South Zone by six wickets while West Zone crushed East Zone by 80 runs.

Chasing 160 for a win, North was in trouble when the asking rate climbed over nine runs per over. But Dharmendra Pandey's breezy knock settled the issue.

Meanwhile, West Zone piled up 236 in 25 overs as Anand Naik plundered a quickfire 81. East was never the hunt after losing early wickets. For West Rahul Dixit took four for 30.

In table tennis, Amol Karhadkar completed a treble as Mumbai swept all the three titles at stake.

The scores: South Zone 159 for four in 25 overs (S. Sudarsan 84 not out, Santosh Reddy 27) lost to North Zone 163 for four in 23.5 overs (Dharmendra Pandey 57 not out, Neeraj Arya 41, Narayanan two for 22).

West Zone 236 for eight in 25 overs (Anand Naik 81, Rahul Dixit 29, Sudhir Tripathi 28, Tauhid Ali two for 40) bt East Zone 156 for six in 25 overs (Tauhid Ali Talukdar 60, Rakesh Dubey 40, Rahul Dixit four for 30, Sudhir Tripathi two for 34).

Table Tennis (all finals): Team: Mumbai 2 bt Assam 0 (Amol Karhadkar bt Tauhid Ali 11-4, 11-7, 11-5; Gordon D'Costa bt Subodh Malla Baura 11-9, 14-12, 13-11).

Singles: Amol Karhadkar (SJAM) bt Tauhid Ali Talukdar (ASJA) 11-9, 11-4, 11-5, 11-8.
