While the effective implementation of the model code of conduct and the efficient conduct of the polling came in for widespread praise, election officials seemed to falter at the final post on Thursday. Though counting of votes in most of the constituencies in Tiruchi district was over by 1 p.m., with the first result being declared as early as 10 a.m., media persons had a tough time getting the full details of results. Despite the counting process being completed rather quickly as expected, there was practically very little flow of information from the counting centres located in the rural parts of the district. As a result, media personnel had to wait till evening to get the full results of constituencies such as Thottiyam, Lalgudi, Musiri, Uppilliyapuram, Marungapuri and even Srirangam.
