CHENNAI: Actor Vijayakant's Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) candidates have come third in the eight constituencies in Tiruvallur district in the Assembly elections. Though the party is new to the electorate, its candidates have done well in the polls what with Gummidipoondi candidate C.H.Sekhar scoring an impressive 13.91 per cent of the votes polled, according to official data. He secured 21,738 votes. While the winner, K.S. Vijayakumar of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam bagged 63,147 votes, his rival Durai Jayavelu of the Pattali Makkal Katchi secured 62,918 votes. The DMDK candidate in the Villivakkam constituency, G. Velmurugan, bagged 51,892 votes, working out to 8.49 per cent of the votes polled. Similarly, in Tiruvottiyur, S.Murugan obtained 21,915 votes constituting 6.42 per cent of the votes cast, followed by the Poonamallee candidate, G.Chandrasekar who secured 15,711votes working out to 7.70 per cent of the total votes polled. S.Angamuthu who contested in the Ponneri constituency secured 13,508 votes amounting to 7.71 per cent of the votes cast. In Tiruttani, R.Sekar got 11,293 votes, which comes to 9.2 per cent. At Pallipet, V.Nethaji obtained 10,957 votes constituting 8.65 per cent of the votes and at Tiruvallur B.Parthasarathi secured 8048 votes, the percentage share of votes being 6.02.
