Power shutdown

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended in Teynampet, Raj Bhavan area, Korattur and Muthialpet on Saturday

from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Course on computer awareness

Tamil Nadu Science and Technology Centre will organise a certificate course on computer awareness (Windows; MS Office Word, Excel and Powerpoint) at Periyar Science and Technology Centre on Gandhimandapam Road beginning May 31.

Book bank invites applications

Sri Sumati Vishal Jain Educational Trust's book bank facility invites applications from college students of Computer Science and all Engineering streams in Chennai city and Chengalpattu areas.

Selected students are provided with textbooks during their course of study. Application forms are available at the trust premises at 66, Thyagaraya Road, Pondy Bazaar (Ph. 24360675) on weekdays from 4 to 6 p.m. and Sundays 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Experiment

to preserve trees

D.S. Jaspal, Financial Commissioner (Forests) of the Punjab government, recently called on Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala at the Raj Bhavan.

He presented a photograph of an ancient tree located in the Golden Temple in Amritsar to the Governor and spoke of an experiment to nurture saplings of beri trees in a sacred grove simulated environment.

Mr. Barnala commended his efforts to preserve sacred trees.

Protest against fuel price increase

The United Forum of Nanganallur Welfare Associations, Lakshmi Ladies Club and Vasuki Madhar Sangam would stage protests before Central Government offices if the prices of petrol, kerosene and cooking gas are hiked, a release here said.

Oil cess, Customs and Excise duties and levies imposed by State governments can be done away with to keep the price in check, the associations said.

Temple celebrates Chithirai Peruvizha

The Sthalasayana Perumal Temple in Mahabalipuram is celebrating the Chithirai Peruvizha.

The eleven-day festival

comes to a close on May 14.
