Computerised train control charting system to be inaugurated today

Staff Reporter

Software developed by CRIS

Thiruvananthapuram: The computerised train control charting system being introduced for the first time in the country will be commissioned in the Thiruvananthapuram railway division on Friday.

The train charting software has been developed by the Centre for Railway Information System (CRIS). With the commissioning of the system, the public will be able to know the exact location of the trains passing through the division. The information will be available from the touch-screen kiosks installed at the railway station. Till now, the train control charting system was done manually. The Railways have chalked out plans to make available the information about the location of trains on the display boards to be set up in public places in the city. Later, the facility will be made available through the Internet.

Thomas Varghese, general manager, Southern Railway, will commission the system at the divisional office.

Once the entire network of the Railways is linked using the software, the public will be able to know the exact location of the train on the railway network in the country.
