BANGALORE: The Lokayukta police arrested Jayaram G.D., a junior engineer attached to the Banashankari branch office of the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA), for allegedly demanding Rs. 25,000. The complainant, Ganesh, had approached the junior engineer to get his father's land that was not acquired by the BDA surveyed. A portion of his father's land in Kathriguppe had earlier been acquired by the BDA. The complainant had filed an application before the authority, the chief office of which forwarded the records to the Banashankari branch office after a lapse of 50 days. The Lokayukta police caught the junior engineer while he asked the complainant to keep the money in his table draw.
In another case, Assistant Sub Inspector of Police Samiullah Sharief and police constable Saleem of D.J. Halli police station were caught based on a complaint that they allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs. 4,000 Mohammad Yunus, a scrap dealer. The accused is alleged to have gone to Mr. Yunus's scrap shop saying that he (Yunus) had bought stolen material from a thief. Samiullah Sharief and Saleem then allegedly threatened to file a case against Yunus if they were not given Rs. 4,000. The accused were produced before the 23rd Additional City Civil and Sessions Court.
