Traffic diversions

In view of Chithirai festival in the city

MADURAI: The city police have announced the following traffic regulations from May 12 in view of the ongoing Chithirai festival of Lord Kallazhagar Temple:

May 12 (Ethir Sevai): Vehicles will not be allowed to use the stretch between Tamukkam Junction and Periyar Statue on the Alagarkovil Road once the procession of Lord Kallazhagar reaches Ambalakkarar Mandapam at Outpost.

City buses and heavy vehicles bound for East Gate and Simmakkal from New Natham Road, Alagarkovil Road and Melur Road will have to go through Race Course Road, Natham Road Junction, Pandiyan Hotel Junction, Periyar Statue Junction, Court, K. K. Nagar, Aavin Junction, Aravind Eye Hospital Junction, Kuruvikkaran Salai, Kamarajar Road and Munichalai Junction.

Vehicular movement will remain suspended between P.T. Rajan Road and Tamukkam and vehicles will be diverted from Lady Doak College Road-Ajmal Khan Road Junction through All India Radio, Jayaraj Kalyana Mahal, IOC Junction, Periyar Statue, Court, K.K. Nagar. Aavin Junction, Aravind Eye Hospital Junction, Kuruvikkaran Salai, Kamarajar Road and Munichalai Junction.

Buses and heavy vehicles bound for New Natham Road and Alagarkovil Road will have to take a diversion at Thevar Statue and pass through Tamukkam, Gokhale Road, IOC Junction, Race Course Road and Lotus Tank Junction.

Heavy vehicles bound for Melur Road should take the Thevar Statue, Panagal Road, Anna Bus Stand, Aavin Junction and K. K. Nagar.

The stretch of Gokhale Road between Home Guards Junction and IOC Junction will be one way on Friday.

May 13 (Lord Kallazhagar's entry into the Vaigai): No vehicle will be allowed to use A. V. Bridge and Yanaikkal bridge from 4 a.m. till Lord Kallazhagar reaches Ramarayar Mandapam from the Vaigai.

Temporary bus stands will function from Simmakkal Junction and East Gate Junction for the convenience of devotees.

Vehicles with passes from New Natham Road, Alagarkovil Road, Anna Nagar and K.K. Nagar will have to reach A.V. Bridge through Periyar Statue, Aavin Junction, Anna Bus Stand and Panagal Road. Those from Periyar Bus Stand, North Veli Street, South Veli Street and Kamarajar Road should use East Gate, East Marret Street and Anna Statue Junction to reach A.V. Bridge.

City buses and heavy vehicles bound for East Gate and Simmakkal from New Natham Road, Alagarkovil Road and Melur Road should take the Race Course Road-Natham Road Junction, Pandiyan Hotel Junction, Periyar Statue Junction, Court, K.K. Nagar, Aavin Junction, Aravind Eye Hospital Junction, Kuruvikkaran Salai, Kamarajar Road, Munichalai Junction, Old Kuyavarpalayar Road, St. Mary's Junction and South Veli Street.

Vehicles bound for New Natham Road, Alagarkovil Road and Melur Road from Periyar Bus Stand should take the Kattabomman Statue Junction, South Marret Street, St. Mary's Junction, Old Kuyavarpalayam Road, Munichalai Junction, Kamarajar Road, Kuruvikkaran Salai, Aravind Eye Hospital Junction, Aavin Junction, K. K. Nagar, Court, Periyar Statue, IOC Junction and New Natham Road,

Vehicles bound for New Natham Road, Alagarkovil Road and Melur Road from Thathaneri should take IOC Junction, Kulamangalam Road, Sellur 80 Feet Road and P. T. Rajan Road.

May 15 (Poopallakku): Vehicles bound for New Natham Road, Alagarkovil Road and Melur Road from Yanaikkal bridge should take MM Lodge Junction, Khansapuram, E2-E2 Road Junction, P. T. Rajan Road, BB Kulam Junction, Jawahar Road, Union Office, Race Course Junction, New Natham Road, Lotus Tank, Pudur Alagarkovil Road, 120 Feet Road and Melur Road.

No vehicle will be allowed entry into Gokhale Road towards Tamukkam from IOC Junction. Vehicles will not be allowed to ply between Tamukkam Junction and Gandhi Museum.

Vehicles entering the city from New Natham Road, P.T. Rajan Road, Alagarkovil Road and Melur Road will be diverted through Race Course Road, Raja Muthiah Mandram, K.K. Nagar, Aavin Junction, Aravind Eye Hospital, Kuruvikkaran Salai, Kamarajar Road, Munichalai Junction, Old Kuyavarpalayam Road, St. Mary's Junction and South Veli Street.

Movement of vehicles will be regulated as per necessity on Alagarkovil Road, Melur Road, New Natham Road and P.T. Rajan Road on May 12, 13 and 15, according to a police press release.
