BANGALORE: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Friday exhorted students to develop self-confidence and face life boldly instead of resorting to extreme measures after an academic failure. Speaking after laying the foundation stone for the Centre for Advanced Studies at the PES Institute of Technology (PES-IT) here, he said one need not have an exemplary academic record to be successful in life. Citing his own example, Mr. Kumaraswamy said that though he was not very good at studies, he had a definite goal in life, and that had brought him to the present position. He lauded students who secured ranks and distinction in their examinations, and said they were the future of the country. Mr. Kumaraswamy appealed to founder Chairman of PES Institutions M.R. Doreswamy to provide the benefit of subsidised fee to at least 10 meritorious students from poor families each year. "Besides rendering service to society, you would become a role model for other private professional institutions," he said. Speaking after felicitating rank-holders, Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa urged managements of professional colleges to cooperate with the Government in implementing the recently enacted law on professional education. "You should understand the sentiments and the commitment of the Government towards students," he said. He said brilliant students could ensure that the country's future was not decided by a few politicians. If they overcome the desire to go abroad for employment, they could contribute to nation building, he said.
Students felicitated
Health Minister R. Ashok felicitated students who secured distinction in their semester examinations. Minister for Small-scale Industries and Sericulture Katta Subramanya Naidu released PES-IT's placement brochure. Prof. Doreswamy and PES-IT Director D. Jawahar were present.
