Nagara Sankeertana to mark Annamacharya jayanti

Staff Reporter

TIRUPATI: A `Nagara Sankeertana' will be taken up on a large scale in the town on Saturday to commemorate the 598th birth anniversary of the saint-poet Tallapaka Annamacharya.

`Siliconandhra', a literary and cultural organisation of Telugus based in the USA, has joined hands with the Department of Culture and Dwaram Bhavanarayana Rao Trust, here to conduct the prestigious event. The organisation has been doing the same for the last five years in several cities in the US, while it has decided to replicate the same in Annamayya's home ground.

The congregation of classical singers, music students and Carnatic music lovers will start the procession (Nagara Sankeerthana) at Ahobila Mutt premises near the Govindarajaswamy temple on Saturday evening and sing as many as 108 `keertanas' composed by Annamayya. The venue was selected given the fact that Annamayya was initiated into Vaishnavism by Sri Adivan Satakopa, the first pontiff of the Ahobila Mutt. Those Interested to participate in the `Goshti Ganam' (group rendition) can contact Dwaram Lakshmi at 0877 - 557 6859 or NV Ramana at 99493 97979.
