TIRUPATI: Sri Venkateswara University has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Department of Consumer Affairs, Food and Civil Supplies for introducing a diploma/PG diploma course in consumer education through its Directorate of Distance Education (DDE). Speaking at the one-day symposium on `Consumer protection laws' organised on the occasion here on Friday, Vice-Chancellor S. Jayarama Reddy stressed the need to establish `student consumer clubs' in the university college and all the affiliated colleges as well as to protect consumer rights and to spread awareness among the public through the student community. He also made a proposal to have a separate directorate for consumer education, research and training. Responding to the proposal, Commissioner (Civil Supplies) and ex-officio secretary to the Government Bhanwarlal reacted positively. He agreed to establish student consumer clubs.
