BANGALORE: The Karnataka Golf Club will play host to popular fusion music band Indian Ocean this evening. Born in 1990 out of the focussed jamming sessions of Susmit Sen on guitars and Asheem Chakravarty on tabla and drums, today the band is one of the most popular Indian fusion acts overseas. Their present line up also features the talents of Rahul Ram on bass and Amit Kilam on drums. The band has released four albums so far, of which Kandisa, released in 2000, is the biggest hit. They played their first concert abroad in London and then went on to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where they were nominated for the Pick of the Fringe. Following this album, Indian Ocean has performed across New Zealand, the U.S., United Kingdom, Japan, Australia and Indonesia. The various members of Indian Ocean have collaborated with a wide range of artistes including violinist L. Subramaniam, American folk singer Pete Seeger, Japanese trumpeter Terumasa Hino and renowned percussionists Vikoo Vinayakram and his son Selva Ganesh. Their fourth album Jhini was released in May 2003, after which the band scored music for the film Black Friday. Indian Ocean performs at the Karnataka Golf Club at 8.30 p.m. on Saturday as part of Seagram's 100 Pipers' Legends Live.
