TN, Karnataka boys advance

BANGALORE: Tamil Nadu and Karnataka boys entered the semifinals of the mini-National volleyball championship at the Sree Kanteerava indoor stadium.

In the quarterfinals here on Friday, Tamil Nadu defeated Assam 25-10, 25-16, 25-18 and host Karnataka defeated Jammu and Kashmir 25-14, 25-9, 25-15.

Earlier on Thursday night, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka made it to the round of eight in a convincing manner.

While TN proved too hot for Madhya Pradesh winning 25-21, 25-8, 25-13, Karnataka had Maharashtra on the run. After pocketing the first two sets at 25-13, 25-13 Karnataka led 15-0 before Maharashtra managed its first point in the third, which the host won 25-5.

Quarterfinals:

Boys: Tamil Nadu bt Assam 25-10, 25-16, 25-18; Andhra Pradesh bt Maharashtra 25-16, 25-15, 25-16; Karnataka bt J&K 25-14, 25-9, 25-15.

Girls: West Bengal bt Karnataka 27-25, 27-29, 25-16, 20-25, 16-14.

League results:

Boys: Pool A: TN bt MP 25-21, 25-8, 25-13; Pool C: Karnataka bt Maharashtra 25-13, 25-13, 25-5.

Girls: Pool C: Assam bt Goa 25-22, 25-14, 25-17. Pool D; Jharkhand w/o Orissa. — Principal Correspondent
