NEW DELHI: Industrial growth has slowed down to eight per cent during 2005-06 as compared to 8.4 per cent in the previous fiscal. A drastic fall in the mining sector and a marginal dip in the manufacturing and electricity sectors were the main reasons for the slowdown, according to the latest official data released here on Friday. The growth in mining sector fell sharply to 0.7 per cent from 4.4 per cent. The manufacturing sector recorded a nine per cent growth against 9.2 per cent while the growth in the electricity sector fell slightly from 5.2 per cent to 5.1 per cent. The data for March 2006 showed a decline in growth from 9.8 per cent in the same month last year to 7.7 per cent this year. The growth in mining sector during the month slowed down to 0.5 per cent from 6.6 per cent, manufacturing sector to 8.9 per cent from 10.9 per cent while that in the electricity sector remained unchanged at 3.2 per cent.
