DHARWAD: Umesh Kusugal, in-charge Chief Executive Officer of the Dharwad Zilla Panchayat, has warned Block Education Officers, who fail to take steps for disbursement of salaries to teachers, that they will be relieved from their posts. He was speaking at the monthly review meeting of the Karnataka Development Programme on Thursday. Earlier, B.B. Gangadharmath, vice-president of the zilla panchayat, said that teachers were not getting their salaries on time. M. Hosmani, Chief Accounts Officer, said the discrepancies in the bills submitted by teachers to the Treasury Office were not being rectified by the officials concerned leading to the delay in their payment. V.M. Patil said he would issue notices to Block Education Officers who are responsible for the delay in the disbursement of salaries to teachers.
Soak pits
A senior official of the Department of Mines and Geology said the construction of soak pits in the district was not in accordance with the guidelines. He said, according to the primary investigation during 2004-05, many of the soak pits were not constructed at the specified places and even though there was an order directing the officials concerned to take the suggestion of the Department of Mines and Geology on their location, it was ignored. He called for setting up a joint investigation team for inquiring into the issue. However, no decision was taken on the issue in the meeting. The last KDP meeting had decided to conduct technical study of the soak pits constructed during 2004-05 following allegations of misappropriation of funds. Among other issues, bus services in rural areas, maintaining cleanliness in and around primary health centres, complaints about improper distribution of foodgrains under the public distribution system were raised in the meeting.
