FOR BETTER AMENITIES: Members of Junion Doctors' Association, Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) taking out a protest march in Hubli on Friday.

HUBLI: Members of Junior Doctors' Association, Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences, Hubli, took out a protest march here on Friday to press for their demands.

More than 100 junior doctors of the institute participated in the march that began from the KIMS premises that passed through the thoroughfares of the city before reaching the tahsildar's office.

The junior doctors held placards displaying the disparity between the fee structure and stipend given to the junior doctors in other States and the one fixed by the State Government.

They submitted a memorandum to V.R. Yaradakeri, Tahsildar. They called for upgrading facilities at the KIMS Hospital in Hubli.

In the memorandum, the junior doctors stressed the need for providing state-of-the-art casualty and emergency services, adequate nursing and paramedical staff and adequate security to doctors on duty.

Office-bearers of the association Vinay Gadgi, G. Shivaprasad, Laxmikant Lokare, Jyothi Agarwal and others led the protest march. M.G. Hiremath, Medical Superintendent, KIMS, said the hospital did not face much difficulty as junior doctors attended to emergency and casualty services.

"Usually on Fridays and Saturdays there will not be many patients coming to the OPD and consequently there was not much problem in handling those very few who had come. But if the strike is not called off, we are sure to face a big problem by Monday," he said.
